A poem exploring the many faces, places and sizes of love.

The phenomenon we call love is a powerful thing
I have heard it described best in the whisper of angels wings
It can break down walls or build them anew
It can be had by the innocent, the guilty, the true
There is no bounds to what love is capable of
It is as great as a dragon, as gentile as a white dove
Love never ends though its beginning is profound
It can begin with trumpets blaring, or by the softest sound
It can be seen throughout the many stages of life
From the newborn child to the newlywed wife
The dedicated husband and life that they’ve made
To the grieving widow standing above a grave
It feels like this love has never been felt before
And yet feels like it has survived a thousand years or more
Love is patient, love is kind
Love never leaves loved ones behind
It passes through the night like a warm summer breeze
It plays with your heartstrings like a seductive tease
It haunts your memories like a ghost of yesteryear
Yet its culmination can be seen by the dropping of one solitary tear
It is as big as the sky above us on a sunny day
It is as small as the child on bended knee who prays
It comes in millions of sizes and shapes and colors
Within father, brother, sister and mother
It grows over time yet stays the same size
It is the mystery that leaves magicians hypnotized
Love is solid and fluid and invisible too
It gives you the power to do all that you do
It crosses the globe with a single breath
And it moves on through time even after its death
It can be seen and heard and smelled and felt
Yet is so elusive that no one understands the love that they’re dealt
Love comes with tomorrow and passes on with yesterday
What matters most in life is what you do with love today
