This is one of the poems I wrote in high school. It’s about the absence of fairy tale endings in loss.
I walk slowly to her, scared ever so scared.
She lies dead in the wet sand as the water touches her softly.
I pick her up and the sand stays wet in her hair.
I lie her on the dock where it is dry and warm.
As I look at her I begin to miss her very much.
I lean to kiss her.
As I go down to kiss her, I think of my childhood stories; where the princess would be in a deep deep sleep, the prince would kiss her and she would awaken forever more.
So finally, hopingly I kiss her.
But she is gone forever and forever gone.
