Once upon a faerie tale: rekindling a past love, with the one that got away.

I wish that I could feel,
You right by my side,
Your arm about my shoulders,
Your body next to mine.
Your voice so soft and gentle,
Speaking to me low,
Your dark enchanting eyes,
Reaching deep into my soul.
Your manner warm and tender,
As pure as newborn snow,
Your nature so appealing,
Inviting afterglow.
So filled with faith and power,
Taking on the world,
All too much intensity,
For just a little girl.
Although a child I am no more,
It still could cut me like a knife,
You’re the man of my dreams,
The prince-
Of my life.
Though I wish that I could tell you,
The proper words I’ll never find,
To explain to you the way,
That I loved you, back in time.
I long to share this moment,
Brush your hair back, touch your face.
Along the lines and creases,
Time has added, I would trace.
I’d whisper words of waiting,
For the planets to align.
And then we’d laugh together,
About how much has changed in time.
Perhaps it doesn’t matter,
If we understand the past,
As long as you’re beside me now,
With a friendship that will last.
And the child I am inside,
Can’t wait to take that flight,
You’re the man of my dreams,
The prince-
Of my life.
