A poem.
I promise to be good to you
I promise to be sweet
I promise to be the nicest
person you will ever meet.
But all of these things
that I am promising to you
will never make you happy
because they’ll never come true.
I promise things that will never happen
I tell you the biggest lies
it doesn’t hurt me one bit at all
because I don’t look you in the eyes.
Why do I do this?
well,I don’t even know
perhaps its just a game
or for putting on a show.
I promise to buy you a car
I promise to be the best
I promise to buy you a dog
I promise we’re moving west.
I always make a promise
that will blow up in your face
I tell you ‘forsure next time’ but
next time i’ll be in another place
I’m the wise promiser
don’t you see
I make the biggest promises
but make none to keep
I know that you’re my daughter
but I don’t really care
I keep making promises
here and there
none of them are ever real
because I dont even try
and im perfectly okay
with seeing you cry
over it.
over the things that i have said.
but I must think of more promises
so hurry off to bed.
