London 1900’s.
When you have finished checking records and that.
One of these days you might meet Felix an ordinary cat,
Now Felix is the only cat officially on Government pay,
But it’s a secret, and who told me, ” That I cannot say?’
Felix receives a penny a day from a Goverment kitty,
And it’s contract clause says it must keep itself clean and pretty,
It also has a clause that it must catch rats and mice,
And bring up any children to be polite and nice.
If anybody killed Felix the official cat,
That person would be in trouble for that,
He would have to foreit a quantity of wheat,
To cover his whole body, and buried tidy and neat.
