Inspired by Herman Hesse’s “Siddartha”, this is about seeking happiness and our journey with “the river”.
I came from the arid valleys,
And sought the foaming sea
For I was told in its great depths
A peace would come to me
A river, ‘stead, I came upon
Knew not from whence it flowed
I found it whirling, swirling and black
Its bank would be my road.
And onward to the sea I trekked,
For this river lead to bay.
The waters would a compass make
As I traveled through the day
I marched upon a beaten path
‘Til weary my legs grew
I thought, “I’ll stop and rest a while,
My journey’s nearly through.”
I lay my head among the reeds
To stop and rest my feet
But I awoke under the sun
In broiling summer’s heat
“My throat is dry,” I rasped in pain
“I will rest a while longer”
And so I did among the reeds
To take a drink of water
By now the sun had melted down
To burn into the sea
And I could see my destination
Lay in front of me
