Is it better to have been loved and lost than to have never been loved at all? Ask a pet who never knew the comfort of a home.

I walk the streets alone,
Never had a home.
Never had a bone,
that I did not find myself.

Who will come and find me,
Confide in me,
When no one will even touch me,
or give me a name.

What am I even worth,
all of this from birth,
lankiness of girth
to walk the streets alone.

Admit not what you see
Look away and be free,
It is only me…
And I am nothing.

Turn your back,
whisper “What is that?”
No, it is not a rat,
for I am a dog.

I came across this picture when I was looking for photos to use in a link on Ugly Dog Contests. This picture is so painfully telling it deserved its own recognition. I do not know much except that this poor dog was on the streets in Cuba, but I do know that there are dogs like this on the streets of every nation whether we like to admit it or not. The photo was taken in 2001 by Flickr user Spuz, and this is the first of two links I am dedicating to this dog.
If you wish to help animals like the one pictured above, please donate to your local humane society or animal shelter.  There are animals suffering in your home town.  You can also look on line for groups that help animals in other nations.
