Getting closer nobody notices the increasing vermin
better known to humans as the sewer rat.
Just the thought brings tingling to the skin
it’s true you can find them as big as a cat.
Closer than ever could be under your chair
can make the toughest more cautious and aware.
    Never far from us now once they were rarely seen
as humans throw more food down the drains.
Their presence more visual their bold and mean
not able to destroy them our loss but their gain.
Helping them increase they multiply with our waste
what we throw away certainly is to their taste.
    If you hear tapping sounds maybe it’s the feared rat
not a ghostly spectre that’s close to you.
It could be on your table or on your mat
they’d certainly over run us if given the cue.
Nesting much closer watching waiting to steal
the sewer rat population is getting very real.

    I never use to see rats only dead ones. Now they’re much bolder and on the increase. They run openly in public view. If man was wiped out they say rats and the cockroaches would be two of the main survivers. An interesting thought. But we throw so much away down the drains or leave it in the streets today. This was something that was never done in the past. But they are part of life and no doubt have as much right being here as us. Man thinks he is superior but we’re not and through our interefernce could well change the balance of nature. Hence the massive increase in the size and numbers of the Rat. What else is happening?
