When working in retail, there is a certain feeling that creeps in after so long and it causes for the wonder: What’s wrong with these people?
Thou shall not pluck at clothes
Thou shall not leave Thine drinks on shelves
Thou shall not go to the fitting rooms
And ask, “May I try this on?”
For what reason would there be
To have a fitting room if trying on clothes
Was not the intent?
Thou shall not leave clothes or hangers
Or tags or other items behind
When leaving the fitting rooms
Thou shall check merchandise for a tag
If Thou should fail to find one
Thou shall bring one with a tag
And explain the situation to the cashier
Thou shall not utter “It must be free”
For, Thy and Thou both know that is not free
Thou shall not steal or raise suspicion of theft
For Thou shall do time in jail, for Thy eyes are watching
Thou shall not ask obvious questions
Such as “Where is the restroom?”
And, “Does Thee work here?”
For, Thy and Thou both know
Thy does not wear a name tag all the time
Thou shall wait patiently in line
And Thou shall not hurry the cashier
For Thy speed shall drop when rushed
Thou shall not complain about merchandise
For Thy interest is withering
Thou shall be polite and thank
Thou shall make small talk
But Thou shall not attempt to help the cashier
For Thou does not help in such attempt
Thou shall pay with exact change
Only if the line is short
Thou shall have ID ready when using credit cards
Thou shall not make a fuss
When asked to see ID for credit cards
Thou shall not allow children to run wild
Thou shall not shush, hush or psst
If it is more disruptive than the child
Thou shall use common sense
Thou shall follow instructions
If thou chooses not, and turns a deaf ear
To These commandments laid out,
Thou shall have a poor shopping experience
For I am the cashier.
