I lived in a place called Walkamin and was inspired by the wattle. Sadly, most of the trees were cut down for housing and farming. I wrote this poem when I was about 12 years old.

I stand in silence without a care
But soon my senses become aware
Of a sweet fragrance which fills the air.
It comes from the wattle tree now in full bloom
It’s scent I know is of the richest perfume.

I gaze to the left, I gaze to the right
Everywhere I look I find a new delight;
And my heart cries ‘Oh Lord, please let it be there tomorrow,
This sight helps to get rid of many a sorrow’.

I realize now without a doubt the reason why
Ours is a emblem that will always shine
From now till the end of time.
A little mark just from a tree
But enough to signify freedom for you and me.

    Well, you opened my horizons today because I had never heard of wattle.

    Thanks for taking the time to view my work.

    The wattle is Australia’s National Floral Emblem. It is a member of the Acacia Species.

    All comments appreciated. Thanks a Million!
