A Christmas I will never forget was 1989. I was driving home from work after dark. It was very cold, and I was not happy because it was the first Christmas my son had been away. I wanted so much to be able to be with him…but.

The Special Fruit Cake

On my way home from work
Dec. 22, 1989, my car slid off the road
This cold night, black ice was the villain
that caused the hospital to be my abode
I had a broken wrist, and bruises too
and several stitches in my head
A bolt went through my knee
I was thankful I wasn’t dead

Christmas day came and went
my husband sat by my bed
The Salvation Army, gave me one gift
and hospital food we were fed
On 26th I got to go home
no holiday goodies could I bake
I couldn’t get up or down
then I remembered the FRUIT CAKE

A friend at work had given one to me
day before the accident was to occur
We enjoyed this special FRUIT CAKE
only goodie we had, I sure did thank her.
Never since has there ever been
a special FRUIT CAKE just like this
There never could be another
as appreciated, bringing more bliss.
