This is a poem I wrote a few years back, when my son was at the story telling age, and he asked me if stories ever came true, I told him I didn’t know.
Well they have just made a film about just that, so at last he has his answer.
He said “Tell me a story of laughter and beauty,
Tell me a tale that has never been told.
Tell me… oh tell me a story of wonder,
Of castles and dragons, and knights that were bold.”
I told him a story of wonderess people,
I held his hand tightly, when we traversed the bog.
He laughed when the dragon escaped the knights fury,
And cried when the princess lost her sweet dog.
The story continued as his eyes started closing,
His head nodding gently, into sleep did he fall.
He never heard the troll creeping up on the princess,
He never heard the crash, as he broke through the wall.
I gave life to the people , so often he thought up,
But I couldn’t stop them, when stories came to an end.
They continued on living in opposite time warps,
which they stretched and buckled and so often they’d bend
But never would freedom be theirs, I am sure of
I had the spell written down, here in my head.
They could live out their lives in time never ending,
But only when I told Gareth his stories in bed
