Where the two "really" in love? Or was it what we wanted to believe?

The truth about the story may be debatable and cause for great discussion at the dinner table. I am going to give you supporting facts that will show that the two were NOT really in love with one another.

First of all, Romeo was in love with Juliets cousin Rosline. However, she was not in love with him and let it be known.  Supporting quote to this fact: ” out of love her favor where I am in love” (II 174) This is telling us that he is in love with her but she is not with him. When Romeo attended a party hosted by the Capulets he went in the hopes of seeing Roseline there, sadly she was not there. He did see Juliet and was taken by her beauty and how she looked so much like Roseline, the woman who  Romeo is in love with.

Quoted, “O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright.” (IV 52) which shows that to him Juliet was more beautiful than life itself. Shallow to think that beauty is “true love” To try an d win Juliets hand and turn her head, Romeo takes her hand and says, ” Sin from my lips. O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again?” (IV 120) Whichs means it was bad to kiss her, but to repeat the kiss may make her fall in love with him.

For Juliet, she finds out that she is to marry a man named Paris of whom she is NOT in love and does not want to marry. Juliets Mother says, “Marry, my daughter, early next Thursday morn the gallant, young, and noble gentleman, the country Paris, at at St Peters Church…” (III 119) Juliet argues against her Mother, Lady Capulet and tells her, “I will not marry yet, and when I do I swear it shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate, rather than Paris”. (III.V. 126) Which clearly supports that she does not love Paris, and HATES Romeo, but will marry so she does not have to marry Paris.

The two did die laying side by side on another. However, Juliet took a poison to only appear to be dead, so that she would not have to marry paris. She had NO regard to the feelings of Romeo and how he would feel seeing her laying dead. When she awoke, she saw Romeos dead body laying next to hers. Still alive, Juliet took the knife she had sitting next to her and stabbed herself to her own death.
