Farmers are of great significance to our lives. Let’s pay tribute to them together with the many unsung heroes of our society on International Labor Day. I would like to dedicate this piece to all of them, but especially to my father who is a farmer.

At dawn he’s already out in the field
Working all day, almost without rest
At twilight he will rest in his hut
And lay his tired body in a bamboo bed

Nurturing the land that he tills
His gift to everybody is a blessing
Rain or shine he never complains
His only hope is a bountiful harvest

The lives of many depend
On his hard but blessed hands
His harvest of vegetables and grains
Is food for the nation, it offers life.

Tiny as a grain when treated
But without this unsung hero
A nation will hunger
The entire human race will vanish.

Thanks for this poem nobert. You’re so thoughtful. I felt A bit guilty without having remembered my deceased father who was a farmer himself. You’re fast and good at poetry. I used to dabble at writing poems also but it would take me days before completing one.

We should all respect the farmer. Without him we couldn’t live. Though I think if a farmer can’t make a living farming he should get out of the business. I dont believe our taxes should pay farmers for letting the land lay fallow, or for producing too much. Let supply and demand work. Maybe I’m wrong, there could be reasons I don’t understand.

Great article! Farmers have a hard job, the business of farming can be daunting and disappointing at times. This is a nice tribute to past and present farmers.

Farming is not for sissy’s and those early mornings can be daunting but it is a very nice experience to work on a farm!

well, farmers are the backbone of the nation, so they say. to the farmers, unfortunately, they have to break their bones, so to speak, to produce for only so much just enough to pay their creditors. farmers revolt!
