Lying awake in the middle of the night, refelcting on the nature of sin.
The Wages of Sin
Sleep approaches carefully and shadows fill my head,
Late at night at times like these I wonder if I’m dead,
I see the visions dancing and I wonder what they mean,
Is it less important if I think it’s just a dream?
I hear the strains of music as they whisper through the dark,
I see the lights before me like a life without a spark,
I feel the silence closing in and smell the taste of fear,
I hope that you’ll forgive me for the horrors that are near.
I can’t believe I sold my soul; I didn’t even try,
But Lucifer was waiting and I knew that he would buy,
It wasn’t till I made the sale I found I had to pay,
But even now I know the price, I’d do it anyway.
So now I’ve sinned another sin, it’s added to my list,
I’d rather like to start anew and try the things I missed,
But till I get a second chance we’ll keep the record straight,
I’ll blame it on society and say that it was fate.
