Everyone was present for the wedding of the century they say.Ashford Hall was finally going to have a lord and lady to fill it with children. The cathedral was all set to have the bride walk down its wide aisles. Were they ever suprised when the beautiful bride in beige satin lace finally walked to the tune of the wedding march. You could have heard a pin drop as jaws dropped but the one jaw that did not drop was the grooms.Lord Willis stood tall, cool, calm and collected as the wedding of the century went on without a hitch.

Everyone who was anyone was seated at the Barthel cathedral,

dressed in their finest clothes a dressmaker or two could make.

Silks, satins and any other  finely sewn new materials was present,

but as the invited guest stated this was the wedding of the century.

*****

For the Lord of Ashford Hall was finally willing to give up being single,

finding a woman he could love and take a walk down the church aisle.

Make one special  woman his lady of the hall instead of a great many,

filling up the ancient halls and many rooms with the laughter of children.

*****

Lord Willis Ashford had given Rosanna a ring that was almost legendary,

the fabled Hope diamond was a small stone in comparison to the ring.

Rosanna’s wedding gown even spoke of the Lords touch for elegance,

the antique veil was held up by his great grandmothers diamond tiara.

****

Rosanna’s wedding gown was made of the finest beige antique lace,

the skirt and train was at least twenty five feet long and very beaded.

Lord Willis himself wore a black tuxedo that fit his very muscular body,

many ladies of common birth and royalty cried at the thought of his marriage.

****

The cathedral was very heavily decorated with white lilies, roses and ribbons,

classical music of Beethoven and Bach played through its great many speakers.

But with a subtle signal from the preacher the wedding march would begin,

signaling to one and all that the bride would soon walk down the wide aisles.

****

But the woman who walked down the wide decorated aisle was not Rosanna,

but a thinner much younger woman with lighter blue eyes and short lighter hair.

Her wedding gown was a more modern version of what a  younger bride desired,

The heavily beaded veil was held up by the ancient tiara of his great grandmothers.

.****

The wedding went off without a hitch despite the switching of the lords bride,

all of the wedding guest jaws dropped with the exception of the new husband.

Lord Willis just stood at the alter and very calmly waited for his blushing bride,

his shell shocked guest would know what really happened after the ceremony.

****

And where was the missing original bride Rosanna in all of her antique bridal glory,

the guest was in for a story that no one invited that Spring evening would forget.

It seemed that Rosanna and Lord Willis had a lengthy talk before the guest arrived,

both realizing though they loved the other a great deal but it was all a big mistake.

****

So Rosanna packed her legendary ring and antique wedding gown in a suitcase,

hands the lords great grandmothers diamond tiara back to a now waiting butler.

Kissed her lord she loved so very much and will for as long as she and him lived,

very quietly boarded a midnight train to start life over without her long time beloved.

****

Everyone wanted to be a part of the wedding of the century and they succeeded,

for no one that was invited or even heard about it will ever forget what happened.

Though Rosanna will love Lord Ashford as long as the world continues to function,

she know down in her heart that he loved the young lady he married today more.

A very interesting and thought provoking story. I know there’s a
lesson in there about true love and what a lord will do all in the
name of that love. A highly descriptive story with plenty of
    intrigue.

Love how your words illustrated the story! Very interesting piece with a sad, but oddly beautiful ending….Rosanna’s sacrifice at the end truly shows how much love she had for Lord Willis. Great write!
