Humorous poem about a very strange street. Hats off to Dr. Seuss for my inspiration.
I took a walk down Chestnut Street.
I saw some unbelievable things.
An elephant lumbered across the street
While carrying a smiling girl scout.
Five pigs danced around and around,
And one gave a loud, oinking shout.
A lizard was talking on his cell phone.
He was conversing with a snake.
A kangaroo was jumping up and down,
She was doing the shake and bake.
A little white mouse chased a cat.
Now that was a funny sight.
A giraffe was having a wonderful time
Flying an ostrich kite.
My word, have you ever seen
A rabbit hopping on a baboon?
Well I have seen it this very day.
It happened this afternoon.
A zebra and tiger exchanged stripes.
How proper they both behaved.
But the funniest thing that I had ever seen
Was a monkey getting a shave.
Yes, Chestnut Street was very bizarre,
But oh how I enjoyed my day.
Too bad I had to go back home.
I wish that I could stay.
