A feminist’s poem – we women are always there, always waiting.
Women are better at waiting than men are.
We have waited for years
For mothers
For fathers
For supper
For spring
For puberty
For dates
For weddings
For periods
For babies
For lab reports
For car pools
For repairmen
For telegrams
For the end of the war
For children to come home
For children to leave home
For husbands to get home
For lovers
For telephone calls
For changes
For decisions
For the next installment
For the right time
For the next time
For enough time
For around the next corner
For the success of middle age
For the grace of old age
For housing
For the peace of death;
We are still waiting.
Expectantly.
