The Galapagos Islands are fascinating and continue to strive with a diversity of species that point to an evolutionary past.
The Galapagos is located off South America
It’s more than 20 islands
That make up this wonderful archipelago
- – -
In 1885, Charles Darwin discoveries
And observations on these islands
Changed our view of the natural world
When he came up with his theory of evolution
- – -
As far as the history of the islands goes
They are not old in comparison
To the rest of the earth
And were formed by volcanic activity
A few thousand of years ago
- – -
It’s a place with underground caves
That are difficult to reach
But once inside
Display massive
Carved out ceilings that are enchanting
- – -
A menagerie of species abound
Including the giant Galapagos tortoise

That weighs a half a ton
Which can live for over 100 years
- – -
Over time some birds have lost
Their ability to fly
Because of a lack of predators
And finches have evolved
With different colors
And beaks
- – -
Many of the species depend
On the sea for feeding
The iguana is one such creature
That waits until his body
Is warm by the sun
Before dipping in cold water
- – -
The hammer head sharks
Have oddly shaped heads
And the sting ray is a master
Of using camouflage
To kill its prey
