Street Poetry.

An Example of Street Graffiti from Sarasota, Florida

Street Poetry

Amidst the tags of gangland,

where the streets are cold and hard;

a world of poetry does exude,

with art of modern day bards.

They hide behind anonymity,

these poets of the streets;

and show us their truest feelings,

and then quickly retreat.

This simple act of sharing life,

of creating their words in art;

perhaps there for the masses,

or just acting out a part.

These street poets keep writing,

but the world just passes by;

without a thought to talent,

the citizenry does cry;

“Behold these defiling children,

whose paintings are so strange;

they should all be locked away,

in a place for the deranged.”

Yet, look upon the beauty,

feel their hearts lain bare;

give pause to the idea they’re sharing,

let your soul take it from there.

    your right there are some stunning wall arts out there, i guess its the non art of just tagging that annoys people.

    I’d rather see the art above than some of the scrawled words we often see.

    I don’t know if its just the difference between Canada and the states, but I hardly see artistic graffiti here anymore. The tagging and the scrawled rudeness.is very annoying.

    There was a story in the news awhile back about an American crew shooting a film in Toronto. They couldn’t find a location rough enough, so they messed up a street and put up their own graffiti. They came back the next day and it was all cleaned up.

    In Pittsburgh there was a real debate about was it art or who was going to pay for the damage.

    One of the things I love most about being a psychotherapist is unveiling the amazing talents of those unrecognized for tragic reasons. Nice share.
