A handsome guy, many talents, turns to drugs, destroys himself, a mother’s anguish.

The unspeakable sadness when one we love becomes

a drug addict. There are no words…

You were my troubadour…

my bright and shining boy.

When audiences applauded

my heart sang with joy.

Your handsome face glowed

with life…

Your eyes sparkled sea green.

You were my everything

until you met cocaine.

I lost you to a madness;

a substance most obscene.

It obliterated all your gifts

nothing left for me.

You went down like a landslide

and on the street you were seen.

I passed you one day in your rags

not knowing who you were

until your rasping voice pleaded,

A twenty please cause I hurt.

I walked on by with malice.

My anger wouldn’t stop.

I turned once for a last look.

You lay still where you dropped.

The ambulance arrived too late.

I stood amidst the crowd.

You were dead at last.

I turned and wept, head bowed.

I often visit your lonely grave

on top a windy hill.

I have nothing to say to you.

A mother never will.
