This poem was written about my grandmother. I decided to work with my sister Ariane who was the last person with her before she passed away and had her read the poem at the funeral, Ariane almost couldn’t finish it because it was so powerful. It was a sad day and it left me in quite a bit of pain, but inspired me to write "Depression Stays In Tears" "One Last Time" and my short stories "She Says" and "She Says II: A Visit From Grandma". You have to understand that our grandma was almost like another mom.

Think of  You

I like to watch the sunshine

I feel it touch my skin and fill my soul

it closes my pain and sadness

            to a perfect whole

I feel the sun rise and watch it set

I love you grandma and I’ll tell you why

as I think of you

we all start to sing for you

as we dream of you

we all had to see you

suddenly you start to cry

forever, this love will always

            be there for you

we spent our years living in joy

picking black berries

            and reading us a story

kicking a ball and playing with a toy

our secret desire

you would teach us to look

you would tell us to say sorry

I like to hear you laugh

            when I’m on the path

its like the passage

            of water trickling down

                        in a stream

it clashes with the rocks and evaporates to the sun in a steam

you made an impression

on us and our life that we must say

we are proud to be your grandchildren

like the power of the sun

            shining every day

we’re flying in a dream

where I find myself at ease

I am mowing your lawn

some days are dry, but today is wet

I feel the cold wind hit me

            and I realize it’s dawn

I finish the job and come

            to hear the stories

while we think of you

day by day

one by one

I wish you never left us
