This poem was written about my grandmother. I decided to work with my sister Ariane who was the last person with her before she passed away and had her read the poem at the funeral, Ariane almost couldn’t finish it because it was so powerful. It was a sad day and it left me in quite a bit of pain, but inspired me to write "Depression Stays In Tears" "One Last Time" and my short stories "She Says" and "She Says II: A Visit From Grandma". You have to understand that our grandma was almost like another mom.

mother your were never a terrible mother

your  warm healing wisdom restored us and made us more involved

as we think of you

we start to sing for you

you whisper our names

            when we dream of you

when you were here

I felt your soul draw near

when we were young

we all had to see you

suddenly you start to cry

we all cried together

forever, this love remains eternal

grandma do you remember when Ariane

visited you before prom

to you she was an angel and you looked

like you were going to cry

she never felt this way before

you made her feel like a princess in her very own fairy tale

I want to love you forever

the blessing from such heart

was overwhelming to me on the phone for my graduation

I came very near to falling apart

as I felt your tears and the words from

            your lips “Congratulations Ryan”

I wish you well

I barely felt my heart pumping

as shivers ride up and down my spine.

grandma looked upon

            you differently Stephanie

I had only just begun

to see in your powerful fire

the impossible and unbreakable ability

to keep going in this desire

we all call determination

            and the most  beautiful

art is speaking another language its unimaginable

but beneath your tom boyish rage

is a love bug to forgive and forget

she is very proud of you

and would encourage you to keep      going in your endless quest

grandma knew that you

            were going to be smart

she couldn’t be more right from the   bottom of her heart

she held you close and there you rose

she saw in you the enlightenment of life

the crisp words of “hetho” and

“you’re not the boss of me”

were not only intelligent, but signs

of a girl going her own way

your carry in you an eternal ray of light

as much as she saw mom in all of us

            she saw herself in you

as we think of you

we start to sing for you

you whisper our names

            when we dream of you

when you were here

I felt your soul draw near

when we were young

we all had to see you

suddenly you start to cry

I want to love you forever

we all cried together

forever, this love remains eternal

you will always be our special angel

that is watching us from up above

and while we dream of you

            we will think of you

and when we want to talk to you

we will sing to you in our dreams

and smile in our memories.
