Enjoying a beautiful, warm autumn afternoon while I have the chance.

Red, orange and golden hues

Displayed in all their glory

Children play in piles of leaves

Without a care or worry

Enjoying the bright sunshine

Of an early autumn day

The light breeze of the afternoon

Summer heat now held at bay

The branches sway in concert

And the leaves join in the dance

They flutter ‘round and seem to say,

“Will you join us, perchance?”

I’m tempted for I know that soon

A chill will pervade the air

And I will brace against the wind

That is winter’s daily fare

Meteorological overtones – Ken, you were a jester in a former life, I’m guessing. :D

I like the imagery and the lyrical qualities of this poem. Yes, autumn seems to inspire many writers; it is the desire on our parts for self-reflection about our own lives.

    Today since they haven’t published
    Any of my poems,
I am reading almost all poems
Of known people a second time
Today I feel like an autumn leaf
    Blown in the midst
    Of a vast
    Meadow trodden
    By the winds of change
    That would’ve had made
    My life mellow

    Autumn leaves are a semblance
    Of youth that once was
    It’s that feeling
    Why I think
I a leaf of autumn was

So true, LH! As we age, we do feel a bit like an autumn leaf. And I have the same problem with publishing this week. Granted, I’ve only had time to write a couple of poems, but they are both in limbo. I’ve been trying to catch up with reading all my friends’ work.

A very good write about welcoming another beautiful somber season. In Atlanta we have the most outstanding weather at this time of year.
