At sea, commiting acts of cannibalism.
Three men in a raft
And a young boys heart
Weeks old from his chest
All three hungry as starving wolves
Still the sea like glass
There are no fish in these waters here
Just the boy’s heart is left to eat
All to catch some damned whale
Instead a wreak and now a raft
With only a stick long or short
A lot to figure out
Who takes a bullet in the skull?
Take the heart and I’ll be next
The thought races round
In each man’s mind
But does not find a home
Each takes his share of the last
And chews it greedily
Passing clouds look like demons now
Coming to claim the damned
Gapping maws of wispy ghost
Screaming silent accusations
For these men riding a raft to perdition
It is not right that nature will drive
A man to eat a boy
And worst still he volunteered
To relieve them of their guilt
Brave he was – shooting himself
More courage than a man
Shaming them at each bite
The salty spray stinging blisters from the sun
Cracked lips thirsty now
Out of water soon
And who’s next on the plate
For two doomed cannibals at sea?
