Poem on the disappointing views & sombre atmosphere, on an autumnal foggy day in London town.
London Eye carousel three-quarters full
With disappointed tourists, cameras unused.
No clear views of Windsor Castle, Stevenage borough,
No clear views to Gravesend, Kent or Gatwick Airport,
No clear views at all, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben
Looming up like Triffids amidst pea-souper fog.
People walking – heads down -
Along Westminster Bridge,
Over the murky River Thames,
As if wrapped in heavy lead blankets;
Car and lorry engine noise distorted,
Emerging out of the foggy/rain-soaked
Void muffled, enveloped, lights diffused
In the wintry, gloomy morning.
Metallic taste of pollution/traffic fumes
Hanging in the dank, stale air.
