After I received news of my best friend’s tragic death I drove through the night to our old stomping grounds. Deep in the White Mountains, traveling 104mph down the narrow road, I thought of this poem, pulled over and wrote it on the brown paper bag that had contained the final beer I bought for him.

A fond farewell to thee,
Is not enough to give.
You shared your life with me,
And you taught me how to live.

I’ll give you more than a simple goodbye,
I’ll conquer a mountain with you in mind.
I’ll remember you until I die,
For ours was more than a friendship,
it was a love that will always bind.

So NOT goodbye to you dear friend,
For you live on in heart and soul.
We’ll not let this be the end,
I know you’ll help me reach another goal.

Whew. I’ve yet to experience such loss. Hope I see it through Clay’s eyes.

This is an excellent way to remember a true friend. There are times that I wonder if anyone will remember me. At other times I know someone will, and other times don’t really care one way or the other. I know that I have a few friends that I will remember after they are dead and gone. Some are already gone, and I will remember them forever, others I will should they go before me

Remembering a friend like this means they were a true friend. I don’t make many friends, but the ones that I do are true and will remain so until the end. That is why I feel that way about the ones that have gone already and the ones that I know I will always remember.

    Again, I say Excellent Work!
