"Music revives the recollections it would appease."–Germaine De Stael
What is a BFF? Do you have one? This is a lyric poem designed for my best friend forever (bff), Melodia Quinte Dominguez, a physician’s wife, a long lost friend in high school rediscovered after fifty years. Read me and you will open the heart of a friend.
The first letters of every line spell out her name, MELODIA QUINTE DOMINGUEZ. Every letter in the name is written in my blood, for that’s how I love her.
Music is your name, best friend forever Melodia,
Enchanting, magical as the moon upon the sea;
Love makes me touch the caroling moonbeams,
Over the rhythmic moanings of the sea;
Did I hear God’s music, Melodia?
Innocence reveals the music of your charm
Among God’s scattered splendors you disarm.
Quietly steal into my slumber, Melodia,
Unleash the ghosts of unsung songs
In my withered heart entombed.
None but a beautiful soul like you
Touched by the music of the moonbeams
Enthralls my heart to sing again.
Do you know how much I love you?
O, make my lovenotes weave a fairy’s wand
Melting the winged years of our youth
Into the sepulchre of dreams forever gone.
Notes we exchange in joy and sadness
Get inside my heart as I laugh and cry
Uniting joy and pain into a bigger world of
Enchantment as on my restless bed I lie
Zipping the cries of youth as they die. ###
