A poem about overcoming a pornography addiction with the help of my wife.
Where would I have ended up
if it were not for you?
Broke, lost, despondent, floundering,
Expectorated chew.
I fluctuated, wavered, spun,
a valley then a peak.
A compass circling endlessly
dismissing what it seeks.
You caught me in my darkened trough
a piercing stabbing light.
Though bleeding, bandaged up my wounds
and prepped me for my fight.
I stood, and swung and fell, and stood,
and swung and fell again.
And to my horror realized
each topple slashed your skin.
Undaunted yet you clung to me;
refused to see defeat.
Fought for my soul, our family,
eternal chains complete.
Your pain: it finally woke me up.
It hardened my resolve.
It broke my heart, then built it new,
with no room to revolve.
The compass now, its aim is true.
The wave has turned to calm.
The compass now, it points at you,
its needle ne’er a qualm.
I owe you all, you darling girl,
you angel, tigress, flower.
Were’t not for you, your constancy,
I’d be in Satan’s power.
