There are time when we must decide whether we will go with the crowd or stand firm on our decisions.

Do you go out by yourself or stay in a crowd?
Where in order to be heard, you must speak aloud
Does it matter that you cannot introspect?
Or that that someone nearby may disrespect?
To be alone is less troublesome
For in this state one would not succumb
To a noisome tyrant who derives his power
From someone over whom he can tower.
It is easy to be in a noisy crowd,
For all one does is follow the proud
The one who has it all worked out
The one who leads with one big shout.
The quiet one can go his own way
To be gone tomorrow or here today
To make a decision without delay
Without going to another to ask if he may.
The one in the crowd has someone to blame,
If the leader’s decision caused one shame.
Because they followed his point of view,
Someone no doubt will threaten to sue.
There is no help to the one who strays,
For if he falls down, there he stays,
He must provide his every need
And himself, he must feed.
Do you go out by yourself or stay in a crowd?
Where in order to be heard, you must speak aloud
Does it matter that you cannot introspect?
Would you do this again in retrospect?
There are advantages and disadvantages to being in a crowd and being alone. Even though the leader may not be effective, there is help from others in a crowd. The one who stands alone must risk not having the help he/she needs. Thriving in a group is a process of growth which is not available to the one who is alone. At times, solitude is necessary, but not as a way of life.
Jesus learned what it means to be alone. His disciples deserted him in stead of taking a stand on his behalf and was crucified because he took a stand which was contrary to the beliefs of the religious leaders of the time. The end result was one of good; all of mankind was able to be redeemed from their sins. But, Jesus paid the price for us all. Glory to God.
