A poem exhorting the sun to break through the clouds and give us a magnificent summer’s day so we can enjoy the pleasure of barbecues with friends.

TO THE DAYTIME STAR
Star regal of day the leaden dome sear
with your lances afire the skies to ransom
and parch the rain that spark moods drear.
Dye our skin bronze so faces glow handsome
Let waft the aromas of charcoal and fare
choice steaks to crackle and sausage to sizzle.
On griddles waltz flames that billow and flare
Glass tinkles and glints; rims froth and fizzle.
