A poem written in English class last year.
I just want to walk on water.
Drowning in stillness, glassy
glazed with silence.
Gaze up to see shades of helping hands
upon surfacing, the despondent realization
nothing but shadow and shift.
So I fill myself with air
rise above it all
solace found in the splendor of the sky
no struggle for breath.
But ecstasy fades as I float to far.
No need for screams, no
No one close enough to hear them.
I just want to linger on the eclipse of night and day
to delve into both realities without
fear of frag
men
ta
tion
of
my
being.
I do not covet the care-free life, but I am desirous
of the insurance of stability.
Take the weight of the world on my shoulders,
keeps me grounded.
I do not want to desecrate His image.
I just want to walk on water.
