This poem tells of the sacrifice that an athlete makes to compete in the Olympic Games in order to win a gold medal.
Our bodies have to be healthy
We push ourselves to be fit and trim
Pursuing our passion
To win Olympic gold
Whether it is a marathon, ice skating, weight lifting,
Volley ball, swimming, or high jumping
It calls for hours and hours of training
Throughout the days, months, and years
Our personal trainers by our side
Under different weather conditions we strive
Our families and friends cheer us on
We struggle steadfastly along
With bruises, cuts, and sprains
Hoping to make the U.S. team or break that elusive record
But when it comes down to it
We want to compete in our best form to win gold
