By Bryan Wegman.

The moonlight bright
Don’t shine here at night
Just echoes of footsteps
And mosquito bites
Rocks bump past
As your feet touch grass
And the road disappears
With the splash of water near
The wind picks up
Emerging from the trees, it erupts
The glimmer of water below
You take your place in the open space
The smell of salt so strong that you can taste
And stare at the face of a friend from long ago
What a beautiful night, such a wonderful sight
Tomorrow I’ll be sad to go, she says
But as the sunsets over the earth
And rises again to a new days birth
I’ll mark and X one day closer to the first
When we can be together again
She stares straight at me
Awaiting what I’ll say
But the silence
Tells it all
