While clearing my work desk at home from various junk/trash (my baby pics, high school diploma, old ‘lady friend’ snapshots and perfume-laden/hurl-inducing love letters, etc…), I chanced upon this poem I wrote ’round 1989 – 1990 (part of what I now call my “under the influence” years). My band (the now defunct ‘New Moon Festival’) turned it into a song, an upbeat one. Too bad you won’t be able to hear how it goes. Anyway, hope you learn something from it… Scary how young minds think
Looking through a broken window,
you let time go by.
You’re in a world of uncertainty,
beneath a crimson sky.
Recall the times of helpless cries
when no one was in sight.
Trapped inside an endless maze
– a prisoner from the light.
A moment passed; a wicked thought…
To ease the pain you feel.
A moment passed; a gun went off…
Nothing seemed so real…
Nothing seemed so real…
Nothing seemed so real…
Lost inside a dream,
You fall and try to scream!
There’s no one there…
Tears ran from your eyes.
You would not realize
someone cares…
Someone’s there… Someone’s there…
But you’re too scared to pray.
“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust…”
They gently laid you down.
I look at you then at my self –
“I’ll till this barren ground!”
Recall the times of helpless cries
when no one was in sight.
Trapped inside an endless maze
– a prisoner from the light.
