A poem about space travel.
In this cosmos, great,
There lie secrets, make,
If I do, if I will,
If I do not break.
Only in the ever-reaching mind of man,
A simple, clumsy, mortal breed,
Can we discover how to surpass,
The laws of nature, never heed.
My mind’s eye sees a future,
Which is closer now than far away,
And we will draw ever nearer,
Should plans work, we make today.
Within reach is a truth we need,
To travel far, to outrace light.
The fate of man is in our hands,
To get there faster than sight.
So my friends, brothers, I call you here,
Of mankind’s excellent family tree,
To break through to another world,
To reach the stars, beyond eternity.
Let us work together, all of us,
In the youth and brilliance of our scars.
With my higher thought, my idea,
And our hard work, we reach for the stars.
To grab at this, we mortal men,
For this new religion, this impossibility,
Is to touch the very face of God,
And kiss the lips of Immortality.
