On the backs of the poor, let them carry the load.

If they are hungry

Throw them a few crumbs

If they are homeless

Let them live on the streets

If they need medical care

Let them heal themselves

If they scream in pain

Cover their mouths

If they protest

Lock them away

If they ask why

beat them down

If they rise up, proclaiming their rights

Rewrite the rules and regulations

If they speak of injustices

Salient them by any means necessary

How many more will cry on the trail of tears

Very straight forward. it seems to be the way our nation is going. Well said and a step in the right direction. You have to make people see the problem before it can be fixed.

Shirley, I love your wooded trail, it looks like my stomping grounds, and I agree with your poem. We had best wake up and smell the coffee.

A forthright and candid piece that rings true, Shirley. “On the backs of the poor, let them carry the load.” – your description succinctly states what your piece is all about.

    Deep and powerful.
