A fictional rhyme of an earlier time. (Photo by the author)

There was a time when a used ‘57 Ford came into my young life–
Just about the same time I found myself with a pretty young wife.
Being married put a crimp in my social life for awhile but one day
My best friend Jim and his girl Mary lou asked if we wanted to play.
From that day on for a little while we were a foursome each week–
Drive-in movies, cruising the square and picnics down by the creek.
Then the darndest thing happened–the two of them up and eloped.
I said to my wife it looks like my best friend has up and got himself roped.
I wasn’t worried–one thing I knew was their love was strong as bedrock.
When their daughter came she was not quite far enough into wedlock.
Why’d they name her Mercedes?  Townsfolk were shocked.  O my Lord.
I know where she was concieved.  Who names a baby girl Ford?

You sure do have a witty and smart mind, as always you have added a nice and humorous twist at the end.Formidable as the french say lol that means excellent as long as it is spelled right, otherwise I don’t know what it means but let’s just go with excellent.lol

    haha, it was very interesting.

When i first opened this, i thought it was going to be a little spoof on this Ford car… but its actually a very thought-out poem.

    Great~

Another signature style only Ken does. Bravo, my friend. Must be ugly to name her Bugatti, Maserati or Volvo.

After a very long, I have read a really wonderful poem like this. I absolutely loved the photograph of the used ‘57 ford and it is reminiscent of Starsky and Hutch’s car of the ’70s. I loved the twist in the end of the poem when they named their baby after the car. Thanks for posting in, Ken.

A funny poem. If we were all honest we would all have tales of a night or two in a backseat. Mine ended with the flashlight of a policeman. Oh, to be young again, NOT!
