This one is a little longer than the norm, but I wanted to let my grandchildren know that they are valued and, of course, loved.

Newly born, the first of three

I revel in something brand new to me

Key to my heart, a dear sweet boy

One to bring me so much joy

Little, tinier than I myself recall

As his mother never seemed so small

(I became a grandmother that day)

Half a minute later, or so it seems

A little girl was born fulfilling our dreams

I watched in amazement, my second “grand”

Let loose her first cry, balling her tiny hand

Enduring long labor, my daughter, so young

Yet from her womb an angel was sprung

A third child, a girl with big bright eyes

Looking like her brother and cousin; no surprise

Yet with a personality all her own

Smart and curious, she let it be known

So much to learn and much love to share

As her grandma, how will I fare?

These three, my grandchildren, dear to my heart

My prayer is that we’ll never part

That I can teach them life lessons so dear

Tell stories they’re always eager to hear

That I can nurture them as they grow

Give them all the love I want to show

So when they are grown; young women, young man

They too will show all the love that they can

Make their parents and grandparents proud

Be people who always stand out in the crowd

Known to be helpers of those in need

Not like some who thrive on greed

Baby Alyssa, Princess Hailey, and young Master Nikolai

Gaining much wisdom as time goes by

Traveling their own paths, pursuing their dreams

Their future so much closer than it now seems

Oh, they are gorgeous. You definitely don’t look old enough to have grandchildren.

  • ashan1614 on May 30, 2011

I’m not! It’s all an evil plot on the part of my daughters to make me feel old! :D

Three cute grand children these are! In life when you begin to see your grandchildren, just know you have arrived! Thanks for sharing these beauties with us! May God bless them into eminent citizens!

  • Drew Diligence on Jun 11, 2011

    Utter crap!

I felt nothing of your professed joy.

    You are no poet.

  • ashan1614 on Jun 11, 2011

I may not be a poet in your opinion Drew, but my book is selling and I’ve got nothing but positive feedback from it thus far. And you know what they say about opinions, right?

  • Drew Diligence on Jun 11, 2011

    Yeah…

Well I actually read the piece, and I have some small knowledge of the art. So I fancy my, “opinion”, has a little more, “substance”, than the cursory views of the plebeian masses.

  • ashan1614 on Jun 12, 2011

Drew, it kills me that you place yourself more highly than the rest of the world. It is not just the “plebeian masses”, as you put it, that have read my work, but others who also have some knowledge of the art. You have the option to like my work or not. If you don’t like it, you also have the option not to read it. Did that ever occur to you?

  • Drew Diligence on Jun 13, 2011

If they really have some knowledge of the art they are keeping it from you.

    Nice friends huh?

I am an audience; I read that which I come across.

You have placed your work on this, PUBLIC, site, in order to gain an audience. This site also allows one to comment.

May I suggest that if you don’t like people commenting you also have the option of abstaining.

… Oh wait, that’s not your strong suit, is it?

  • ashan1614 on Jun 13, 2011

I don’t think you so much as read what you come across… more like you seek out works by those whom have “wronged” you and leave nasty comments. You hadn’t bothered me for a while; I thought you’d gotten tired of the game. But I guess when you have nothing better to do, you have to entertain yourself somehow.

Feel free to leave all the comments you like. It only helps me.

    Thanks!

One of the best poems that I have ever read. How the words just flow from the mouth. It is truly beautiful written and your Grandchildren are just adorable.
    Thank you for sharing this.
