True love may die from simple lack of attention.
When a man becomes inattentive to his wife
Where is that love he once proclaimed
Was she not once the center of his attention
Can good times be forgotten with such ease
Has his need for her companionship dissolved
Does he care so little he is neither friend nor foe
Much less a lover, the failure must be his alone
For those are the most basic things of love
Has he no love in him that’s free to give her
Is he willing to claim that retched loveless state
How can a man have no pride in himself at all
Pride cannot be taken, it can only be abandoned
But what if she too has failed in her attentions
Abandoned pride that cannot be taken from her
Has she no love at all within her for the giving
Is she so willing to claim that loveless state
Companionship of friends is always basic
Love cannot exist without that closeness
It is she, I think now, who has failed here, not he
Were not she and he not once willingly as one
Did she not once make him the center of attention
Where has that love gone she once proclaimed
Gone perhaps to the same place his has gone
Is that the only thing they have in common now
The problem as I see it here is common
A collapse of communication slowly come about
Add to that the flaw of thinking, as so many do
That a true love, once committed, can never end
