Thoughts on a birthday marked by the big 3-0.

Turning thirty, landmark age.

Well, at least says the wise sage.

As for I, another year flew by.

Special yes, happiness I confess.

Little wrinkles made their mark,

Yet my mind is still sharp.

Beauty reigns, inside and out.

Turning thirty… divine!

There is still so much more time.

Hence, no reason to pout.

Instead, celebration colours the day.

Three-oh… it is time to play!

Candles, of 30 count, flicker upon the cake.

Delicious, bright, and promising,

I am ready to take flight.

Turning 30, landmark age.

So says my internal sage.

30 is a very good age. You are young enough to partake of life to the fullest and you have enough experience to avoid life’s pitfulls. Yah for 30.

Belated wishes for a happy birthday. As for me, I turned 58 just yesterday. There was once a time I used to think you are as young as you feel/ want to feel. But aching joints, clumsy work, erratic memory…all have somewhere diminished the confidence.

    Happy Birthday to you, too!!

  • hfj on Apr 21, 2009

Well, your birthdays already come and gone, and turning forty won’t take long. So get your butt in gear, cause it gets wider with added years. You seem to be taking turning thirty well, by the words in your poem i could tell. A good attitude will go a long way, as your muscles begin to sag and sway. Gravity will begin to attack, and it usually starts with your back. So good luck on the journey you take, and do limit yourself to one piece of birthday cake!! Nice poem and happy birthday Juhls.

Belated Birthday greetings from a 31 year old who felt the same last june! Love the poem.

  • Juhls on May 14, 2009

hfj: Wow, what a lovely comment, perfectly rhyming and all! Your words made me laugh and, hehe, be a little scared about the backside-focused gravity, but I guess that’s life, not? Hehe, better get outside and start running this morning already!!

Cashmere Writes: Ah! Thank you for the belated wishes. It looks like you birthday is coming up soon, too! Best of birthday wishes for you. Hope you have a lovely celebration and a new year filled with great joy and beauty.

You’ve reached that infamous milestone called the Saturn return. I won’t get into it but there are plenty of thought-provoking articles written on the subject. Hope you get spoilt rotten and Happy Birthday Julz.

  • writing4angels on May 28, 2009

    A very well expressed feeling.

  • Juhls on May 31, 2009

hiho: I just started looking into the Saturn Return… very cool, I love that type of stuff, and at least for me, I believe there is much truth with this transitional time. Thanks for the led to it! I wouldn’t have even realized it myself.

    writing 4 angels: Thank you!
