A poem of two who wish to be lovers but are trapped within themselves.

Two Oysters – By Susan Varo   5/23/00

Come to me an oyster

Come to me pearl of mine

We met on the ocean floor

Uncovered through the layers of time

Mute to the world around us

There’s no sound we can tell

Here among these stormy seas

Alone here in our shells

Sparkling shimmering sunlight

Hues we only see

Currents shifting high and low

Pulls you close to me

Sand drifts spilling over

And we’re opened to be free

But we’re forever trapped within ourselves

Until eternity

We become a part of each other

Two oysters in our perfect worlds

Oysters in two perfect shells

Two oysters with two perfect pearls

We’ll weather all the high tides

Until these days are done

Storms nor drought can separate

Two oysters become one
