“They say that the world rests on the backs of 36 living saints — 36 unselfish men and women. Because of them the world continues to exist. They are the secret kings and queens of this world”-Neil Gaiman.

They wake up
and pray
or not
or just say “Thank You” to no one in particular
They get up
get dressed
get food
or not
and enter our world
(not theirs per se)
and do their best
to change it
They give a handful of change
or bills
to the man at the corner
They leave a tip
at the coffee shop
They do their jobs
better than you or I
and never ask for a raise
They are not the ones who
ask you for money
but they give for you
They are not the ones recognized
with awards
though they may work with those
or teach them at school
Their pulpit in not in the front of the church
but it may be on the corner of 19th and Main
Their numbers are small
(36)
and they hold us on their
unbelievably slender shoulders
so we do not fall
even further
slouching towards Bethlehem
And you never know
where one might be
Could it be you?
