A cold gave me a well deserved day in bed leaving the family to fend for themselves.

I’ve Caught a Cold

I’ve caught a cold and I’m so bunged up.

My legs they feel like lead.

My bones ache. My throat is sore.

And there are pains inside my head.

I’ve taken lots of remedies,

In the hope my ills to cure,

But my nose it is illuminated in the brightest of reds

And I no longer look so demure.

I’m having to stay in my room all day,

My family has left me alone.

They claim they can’t take time from work,

So not much sympathy have they shown.

But now I’ve got the house to myself

I can snuggle down and have a nice rest.

I might have a cold, but I think you’ll agree

That with a day in bed I’ve been blessed.

Nice poem. A cold is bad, but the time alone at home is nice, well done.

There, there, everything’s gonna be alright. I’m sorry you feel bad. Is there anything I can get you? (Substitute sympathy).lol

Christine, you have a heart of gold!!! You _always_ find the good in absolutely everything! I hope your quiet time alone helps your cold. A little chicken soup would be nice. If I were there I would bring some over!! Liz

Colds drive me nuts because they last forever.
Your words sure apply to the vast majority of us.
    I’d rather catch a cold than a flu though…

  • seashell66 on Jun 22, 2009

Hope you feel better. Only you could see the bright side of being sick. You’re remarkable.

  • Ramalingam on Jun 22, 2009

Sometimes, falling ill is a blessing in disguise to busy people.Thanks.

  • CHAN LEE PENG on Jun 22, 2009

You should take good care of yourself. Cold makes you feeling discomfort. Make sure you take a good rest/sleep, replenish your body with adequate amount of water (preferably alkaline water), keep yourself warm by wearing enough clothes, rest your mind peacefully, cut off meat but take plenty of fruits and vegies (preferably organic) and start praying hard to God. Everything will be alright then.

Take care. I’ll pray for you and God bless. Liked it.

Be sure its not one of those dreaded flu. take a lot of fluids and fresh fruits.

The first day or two of a cold are so horrible, I completely sympathise with you Christine. Hope you are feeling much better – you got a lovely poem out of it, as always.

  • Tina Cassello on Jun 23, 2009

That’s one thing I miss when I feel ill is having a parent to wait on me, but being able to rest without guilt is a blessing.

As they say: Every downturn has its blessing. Nice insight into your own life.

  • monica55 on Jun 23, 2009

Give yourself a break, have some good rest, drink plenty of fluids- water and orange juice, and you’ll be up and running again in no time. A cute piece again.

I hate colds and flus! With me, they linger for weeks! Thankfully, I don’t get sick often. I like how you see the silver lining in this piece.

  • fishfry aka Elizabeth Figueroa on Aug 19, 2009

Lovely poem, I hate getting sick but getting time to myself is very difficult, and the family needs reality checks every now and then. The worse part is when I feel better and get out of the bed, OMG
