An analysis on the song Unbound – The Wild Ride by Avenged Sevenfold.
The title of this poem (song) is called “Unbound (The Wild Ride)”. It relates to the poem because the poem is about a ‘Wild Ride’ where you are not bound to your seat. To be direct, this poem is about growing up and how it is like a ‘ride’ that is a one-way trip. Oftentimes, you may be met by various hindrances, which will scar you (mentally or maybe physically) and life is just like a loop. You are born, you die and the children are the new start and it continues, but you only get one-chance at it, so don’t “live wrong”. The poems topic is “Growing Up” and I think the theme is that “Growing up is a one-time ride, so don’t ruin it”. I think this poem is a free verse poem. I think so because there is no rhyming pattern, or syllable pattern. On the other hand, it does rhyme sometimes, but since the places words are rhymed are erratic I have decided that it is a free verse poem. I think the composers chose to write a free verse poem because it is difficult to find rhymes for so many words, but on the other hand not all the words must rhyme for the poem to sound nice. Metaphors and repetition are used in this song. A few choruses are repeated, and one of the parts (Some live so wrong…) is repeated another time except it is sung by a child. A metaphor is somewhat used when they compare growing up to being ride, though they do not say it straightforwardly. I really like this poem, firstly when it is sung it sound really nice and secondly, I think the way the song displayed growing up as being a ride was a very creative way. Overall this is a wonderful song which I really like listening to.
