Stop sitting in your self pity.
The man screamed against the darkness
As his demons began to surround his heart
His cold hands gripped the rail
When he finally forced his lips apart
“Tonight my love its over
This heart has had enough
I cannot fear your stare
Nor can I call your bluff
You say that you can live without me
So i guess tonight we’ll see
Just how well your precious life goes
Without the fractured heart in me
I cannot live without your love
I cannot sleep without your touch
I will not dream at all tonight
My soul inside has died too much
So now the soul i harbor
Must tonight match my fate
Looks like this is how it ends
With a heart too far gone to break
What left will beat for you my love
It’ll scream out against the fall
But if i cannot be loved by you
I do not deserve to live at all.”
He took one last look at the sky
The stars had molded into her eyes
They had made it just in time
To watch his short life die
Before his arms let loose
Blood rushed back into his hands
He felt her fingers over his
His heart had jumped to life again
He slowly turned his head
To meet his lovers gaze
She looked well enough to kill
Though her cheeks were sorrow stained
The man turned toward her to explain
She pressed a finger to his lips
“Shut up, now its I who talks
I’ve heard too much of this…
You claim you cannot live without me
So you want me to hurt for losing you
But only a fool would die for love
Not too mention offing himself too
You cry against the night for me,
But your world is far from over
So why exactly do you wish to quit
Instead of continuing to push forward?
Is it because you’re afraid to love again?
Claiming your heart will always bleed for us?
You’ve always believed every word i said
And yet you stand here with such distrust
Is it because you could not hear
That our love in fact is dead?
I’m sorry i could not hold on to the shell
Of the life that could have been
I never said you’d lose me
So stop sitting in your self pity
The things we’ve faced will always stay
In this heart you kept safe for me
But I cannot stay tonight to argue
Just wanted to say don’t be so dumb
You will indeed love again
If you come down I’ll walk you home”
He began to turn against the stars
But doubt soon filled him once more
“How can i trust this love I’ve lost
To safely get me to the door?
You said we’d last forever
But i guess forever’s short these days
If i cannot wake up with you tomorrow
Whats the point in going home today?”
She filled with a new anger
One she’d never shown to him
It was the wrath of a woman
Whose starlit eyes grew dim
“Then you stay up on this bridge
But tonight i will not cry
I came here to say I loved you
Not at all to say goodbye
I did not want you to see this
As me crawling back to you
And I also wanted you to see
The error in some of the things you do
But you know what? I can’t do this
I cannot love a child
I thought for sure you were stronger
I could always see it in your smile
Indeed we must all be wrong i know
But i wish it wasn’t like this”
She brushed the hair from his eyes
And left him with a fractured frozen kiss
He went to talk to her again
But she just turned and walked away
And in the darkness he swore she said
“We will not live to see another day”
He looked back onto the stars
Searching for guidence and for hope
When none was found, he looked straight down
And forcefully that night gave up the ghost
She saw the image in the paper
And the headline that lied above
It said “This Man was killed
By his faithful undying love”
She would not shed a tear at all
And that night did not haunt her soul
She had said what needed to be said
In the end her heart let go
She would never correct the papers
For In the truth there are no worries
She knew its always better to go out as a martyr
And die In your own blaze of glory.
