All cases of underweight or overweight should be discussed with your doctor. If you are in aany doublt, let him decide.

Parents can do great harm by trying to make children eat more or less because someone-perhaps a relative or neighbor-has decided they are to thin or too fat. They can also do great harm by dismissing the subject with, “Oh, Johnny will grow out of it!”

Underweight and Overweight in young people can be serious; only a doctor can determine this and decide how it should be dealt with according to the cause, the age of the child, and the entire situation. The only thing parents should do on their own is to provide proper meals and a proper attitude toward them. Don’t use foos as a reward or withhold it as a punishment. Make meals pleasant and relaxed without overemphasizing them. In this way you will help to develop well functioning appestats in your children, for which they will be grateful all their lives. I discuss punishments as a method of maintaining discipline in children.

This is true. Adults often think children are underweight or overweight when in reality they fall within the ‘normal’ weight range for their age and height. Great article

When it comes to under/overwieght children I would say the blame could be split fifty-fifty; fifty percent blame to parents, fifty percent blame to schooling programs. Parents deserve blame because today we have too many parents working late nights and not caring what their children are consuming everyday, or how much exercise their children indulge in. The other fifty percent would go to schooling programs. The lunches at schools are so unhealthy! The food does not give the right kind of things together to give children the right ammount of vegatables or fruits, breads, meat that children need in an everyday meal. Another school program that could use improvement is gym classes. We obviously have overwieght children in the years of 2010/2011. Gym classes push children to workout but we have all been there; as soon as the teacher turns his/her back… you relax untill they turn back around. Wieght is becoming a major problem in children today, I think we need to start bringing nutrition and exercise back into daily rutiens!
