A stranger’s kindness.

Speeding down the highway at a quarter to five,
Pretty, popular and glad to be alive,
She don’t really care how fast she drive,
‘Cause she don’t wanna be the last one to arrive.
The driver ahead of her is moving too slow,
Can’t he see the green light, that means go.
She yells: you dumb fool, the light’s green!
He retorts: you’re too pretty to be so obscene.
Just get out my way! She yells as she pass,
Then she flip him the bird and step on the gas.
She really should not have been going so fast,
The last thing she recall was shattering glass.
She try to scream but no sound comes out,
She choke as her own blood fills up her mouth.
someone reaches in and offers a hand,
She looks up to see that same slow driving man.
She’s immediately filled with regret and shame,
He say to her “young lady, tell me your name”
She can’t even manage to choke out a reply
All she could think is she don’t wanna die.
He wipes away her tears as she cry,
He’s being kind and she don’t understand why.
Her vision’s blurry and her head feels so light.
He whispers to her “you’re gonna be alright,
Just don’t give up, you’ve got to fight,
I’ll stay here with you if it takes all night.”
He stays with her throughout her ordeal,
She wish she could tell him how sorry she feel.
He stays at the hospital to make sure she’s okay.
Then he wishes me well and walks away…
She don’t know who he is–even to this day,
but wherever he is she just wanna say:
“there are good people in this world
you’re one of them with your heart of gold,
you gave me the strength to fight to live,
all that I have I would willingly give,
just to see your face once more,
and express the thanks that I couldn’t before,
to show you my sincerest gratitude,
and apologize for my rude attitude…”
She’s alive today and it’s all because of,
a stranger who showed her unconditional love.

Wow, what a great story in this poem. It inspires me to try to be kinder in my day to day walk. Sometimes we entertain angels unawares…

Arcene, you’ve done it again! A story wonderfully told! It is often those we step on, put down, oppress and mistreat that wind up coming to our rescue. The young lady in your poem, I know, will be forever grateful that the gentleman didn’t treat her in the manner she deserved.
