A poem about reuniting with a lost love. The speaker was hurt so much by the loss that she tried to forget him, but was less successful than she tries to believe.
You seem familiar…
We must have met before…
At least I’ve seen you somewhere…
I’m absolutely sure.
I must have known you…
Too long ago…
I’m sure I did…
It’s how I don’t know.
I can’t remember…
But I didn’t forget…
Something in your eyes
Says I will place you yet…
You sound familiar…
We must have talked before…
I’ll bet it was often…
In fact, I’m pretty sure.
Bet you were someone special…
I mean-I could be wrong-
But I seem to recall now…
I think I’ve known all along.
I might have loved you,
For, though it’s been a while,
I think I’d have done anything
To see that precious smile.
Your touch brings me back
To a time long ago…
And perhaps you once touched me
More ways than you know.
You must have hurt me,
Or I think I’d recall
A little more clearly…
I’d remember it all.
But you’re just reminiscent…
A mere whisper, a hue…
‘Cause I must have tried hard
To have forgotten you.
Your scent is familiar
And its overpowering way
Of making me dizzy-
Even today.
Yes, I must have loved you…
But it’s hard to believe…
I remember us happy…
So, why did you leave?
Still, I must have been grateful
For each lesson you taught…
Yes, I must have loved you…
And more than I thought.
