Poem about “Up”

We have the L word,

and the four letter word,

which is often heard today,

but our grandparents rarely said.

There are many English words spoken,

that can be very confusing,

depending on how it is taken,

and sometimes can be very amusing.

Take the two lettered word UP,

its a very little word,

has many meanings that can add UP,

and its meaning can be absurd

You can understand UP pointing to the sky,

or at the top of a list,

but when in our beds we lie,

we’re told to wake UP from our blissful sleep.

At meetings a topic always comes UP,

and the secretary writes reports UP,

officers are UP for elections,

but when voted out give their seats UP.

We call UP our friends,

and sometimes we give UP on them,

we save UP to make ends meet,

and spend UP just for a treat.

We’ll brighten UP a room,

polish UP the silver,

sweep UP the house with a broom,

then we’ll serve UP dinner.

We lock UP the house,

fix UP the car,

get all heated UP when a aroused,

and in the pub we’ll hold UP the bar.

Sometimes we stir UP trouble,

we may even get UP tight,

put our Fists UP in a fight,

when beaten UP we stumble.

A drain must be opened UP,

because it is blocked UP,

we UP the tempo when in a hurry,

get broken UP when out of money.

Open the store UP in the morning,

but we close it UP at night,

we get all cut UP when in mourning,

and we jump UP when we get a fright.

Some cant make their minds UP,

while others are UP themselves,

many just close UP,

others say UP yours.

We say its clouding UP when threatening rain,

when the sun comes out its clearing UP again,

whoa there must many UP things to say,

but I’ll wrap it UP and just shut UP.
